How Long Do Beach Volleyball Games Last?

Beach volleyball offers many low-impact, high-intensity activities — players can run, jump, and dive. It’s a great way to stay fit and enjoy a little friendly competition with friends and family. Beach volleyball is a two-on-two match where a player serves the ball to his partner, who must return the ball over the net. But how long do things take to complete a game of beach volleyball?

In general, beach volleyball has an average match time of 30-60 minutes, playing 21 points for the win. There is a 2 point threshold for a win. For a best of 2 out of 3 matches, the average time is 60-100 minutes. A match goes to 21 points, and if a third game is necessary, it goes to 15 points.

Beach Volleyball is an Olympic sport, but you don’t need to be at an Olympian level to have fun and play it. To win a match, it is simple enough – just keep hitting the ball over the net until the ball hits the ground. Growing up in Southern California, beach volleyball was common enough to see on many local beaches. San Diego State and UCSD had beach volleyball games (and parties) to participate in or watch during the school year.

In this article, I’ll go over the sport of beach volleyball, looking closer at the history, rules of the game, and even the sport at the Olympics.

Winning a point in beach volleyball

During volleyball, a point is scored when the ball goes out of bounds or onto the sand of the winning team. The team has a maximum of 3 hits to lob the volleyball to the other side, and a player can touch the ball only once in succession.

Is Beach Volleyball Harder Than Indoor

In terms of difficulty, I would say beach volleyball is harder than indoor. There is a larger area to cover per person in a two-person team, and moving on sand is quite different from hardwood floors. There can be more diving for the ball as the sand makes it easier to dive and land. Of course, sports played at a high level are difficult, so intensity makes this a tough question to answer.

Final Thoughts

Beach volleyball is a great sport to watch, especially if you live near the ocean or lake. Beach volleyball, which is sometimes not considered a serious sport because it’s played on the beach, is a fast-paced game that requires quick reactions and excellent teamwork. Having watched university beach volleyball and some professional matches on California beaches, I enjoy this sport whether watching or playing it.

Give it a try and have fun!
